By Paul Stephen Waugh, Lighthouse International Group Head Mentor
This video is taken from a live recording of Lighthouse International Head Mentor, Paul Stephen Waugh, explaining why true pioneers take so long and produce so few results until they break through.
The focus of the video is on the immense challenges faced by Thomas Edison and how he proved his critics wrong after 10 years of not making a profit when developing the lightbulb.
If you want to learn how to become a pioneer, withstand criticism and make a difference, you can speak to one of the Lighthouse mentoring team here.
Thank you for this, one thing I have noted is that many, many pioneers, were thwarted by their own families! Take Florence Nightingale for example, when she approached her parents and told them about her ambitions to become a nurse, they were not pleased. In fact, her parents forbade her to pursue nursing! Her own parents! What would have happened if she did not go against them and follow her heart and her calling from God!? What we have seen here at Lighthouse International Group is some of our families and so called friends trying to discourage and derail our ambitions and decisions to focus on our growth and development and pioneer this crucial and vital work. But it only…
Thanks for this article abut Thomas Edison. It shows that real breakthrough in important areas can take a lot of time and causes a lot of resistance. Mr Edison understood the principles and he knew there must be a way to reach his goal. Very inspiring with powerful life lessons. Thank you
This is so inspiring and it's just fascinating that you never hear about the criticism and the long arduous journey/work that the most prominent pioneers had to go through to give us, usually, what society needs. I really love this and a huge lesson for us all. Thank you Paul Waugh.
I read a quote the other day that said “never discourage someone in their progress no matter how slow.” Plato.
Every pioneer has been criticised for taking too long. Including Thomas Edison. Thank God for people who don’t listen to naysayers
I never realised Thomas Emerson went through such persecution in his desire to help society and the world have the light bulb. I think virtually everyone in the modern world is glad he did though!
